The Speech Sound Set ©  comes on a CD-Rom.

What's on the  CD-Rom?

Are you ready?

 There's a lot here...

  1. SPEECH SOUND STORIES is a printable booklet that explains how each
sound character relates to its sound, provides tips to help children make each sound, the age when each sound is usually mastered and suggestions to encourage children to "explore" the characteristics of each sound.

  2. All characters are provided as JPEG files (picture files) in  THREE COLOUR OPTIONS:  colour, greyscale (see Charlie Choo-choo)  and line drawing (see Lovely Lara above). Colour is great for slideshows or for posters for the classroom, greyscale is great for economical printing and line drawings are perfect to make colour-ins. Insert  into documents, enlarge, copy   (just like Clip-Art). Click here for an example of Hot Harry in colour.

  3.  THREE BOOKLETS containing all the pictures  in the three colour options in flashcard format  so they can be printed, cut up and quickly made into cards.  Print out on card or laminate for durability.

  4. TIPS FOR TEACHERS are two printable booklets - one for early primary and one for kindergarten (pre-school) teachers  - orienting teachers to THE SPEECH SOUND SET and its uses.  Contains references to research.
"One of the most compelling and well-established findings in the research on beginning reading is the important relationship between phonemic awareness and reading acquisition."  (Kame'enui, E. J., et al, 1997)

  5. A POWERPOINT PRESENTATION displaying all the characters in full colour. Add a voiceover - or make your own PowerPoint containing just your target sounds.

  6. A SET OF HAND SOUNDS  - hand actions that add yet another cue for learning and remembering sounds.      Click here to view a sample page
    (of Hand Sounds).

  7. TABLE-TOP REFERENCE CARD  - all sound characters, their names and their most common grapheme (letter) link are displayed on a card for quick reference. Great for students who are starting to make sound-letter links. (Two options included: Victorian cursive and Arial font.)

  8. LETTER OPTIONS  - graphemes and diagraphs (letter and letter combinations) presented as flashcards to be cut up and matched to the sound characters. Once again, great for assisting children to match letters to the sounds they have studied. Provided in Victorian cursive and Arial font.

  9. SPELLING OPTIONS  -  a printable booklet that shows each  sound character and the letter options that can represent that sound. There are also three pages of hints to assist in learning specific spelling options. Print out a whole booklet for each student or enlarge and hang as a handy reference around the classroom . There's room for writing words in "boxes"  designated to each spelling option on each page (eg.  The Nosey Nick sound can be written as "n"  "nn" "kn" "gn"). Click Here for the Furry Fred Spelling Options (for the sound /f/)  There's a page like this for EVERY SOUND.

174 Printable PAGES and 81 JPEG IMAGES - all on one disk

COST  AUD  $65.00

or combine with The Speech Vowel Set (usually $65) and receive both

The Speech Vowel Set
ã is a set of 21 sound pictures that represent  the vowel phonemes of English, with a focus on Australian pronunciation of vowels.

It was created in response to the lack of Australian resources targeting vowel sounds.

As many therapists know, vowel sounds can be extremely difficult for some children to produce, particularly those with verbal dypraxia.  The more cues we can give a child (visual, mental, auditory) the more chance they have of producing the target sound. The Speech Vowel Set ã  fosters an interest in the characters' sounds - it actually makes them fun. Teaching vowel sounds can be explicit, yet enjoyable.

For children with auditory processing difficulties or impaired phonological processing, vowels can also be extremely difficult to distinguish from one another.  This often impacts upon reading and spelling.  The Speech Vowel Set ã allows the teaching of vowel sounds in a way amuses the child, holds their interest and assists their learning.
